Jelt Belt

Okay everyone, this is a really cool Montana business! (All of them are, but this one is completely out of the box!). I first found out about Jelt Belt when I was looking for a new belt that is a bit more comfortable than the regular belts you can buy at Walmart or other department stores. I stumbled on these guys, and was super excited to find out they are Montana made, environmentally conscious, AND give back to their communities! Seriously, could they be more awesome? Oh yeah, did I mention they are completely affordable and come in all sorts of awesome colors? Yeah, that’s pretty great! Learn more about them in our behind the scenes look below!
1. Shop Basics
You can buy your Jelt Belts online at!
You can also check them out on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter!
2. What is the MUST HAVE belt color of the summer?
We have a new color, khaki green which is our original design. Our JeltX was just released this week which is great for summer adventure due to the wider design and magnetic buckle! The JeltX is more male focused (perfect for our male readers that need a new belt this summer!)
3. What makes the Jelt Belt different from other belts?
The Jelt is like no other belt on the market today. The design makes it virtually invisible under shirts while still allowing for comfort and fit. The inner grippy gel grips to pants through your movements so you can get the most wear out of jeans and the elastic stretch with you which always keeps your pants in place. The elastic is made from recycled water bottles making the Jelt not only a functional product, but a sustainable one as well.
4. Can you give us a briefing on what it means to be a B-Corp, and what it’s like?
In February, Jelt joined over 2,100 Certified B Corporations from more than 130 industries in 50 countries that share a unifying goal: to redefine success in business. Performance standards of Certified B Corps are comprehensive and transparent, and measure a company’s impact on all of its stakeholders. B Corps are legally required to consider the impact not only on their shareholders, but also their workers, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment.

Jelt is dedicated to incorporating several programs beneficial to social and environmental issues into our business model, all of which contribute significantly to our B Corp status:

Materials: Our belts, which are elastic with a no-show plastic buckle, are made from 100% recycled water bottles on 100% recycled cardboard packaging, which lowers our carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Manufacturing: Our belts are manufactured in the United States via the Montana Correctional Enterprise Program. This voluntary and progressive program allows women incarcerated at the Montana Women’s Prison to apply, interview, and be trained in manufacturing the belts. They receive legitimate wages that they can then save towards restitution, child support, or put into a savings account to save for their release. This program helps the women develop a strong work ethic, learn new job skills, and helps increase their confidence, making them more marketable employees upon their release.  It has also been proven to reduce recidivism.

Community: We donate a portion of every sale to non-profit programs that support veterans, children, and the environment. Current partners include Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation, THRIVE, and 1% For the Planet.

Employees: We provide good wages and flexible schedules to our employees.

Jelt was created to give back to our communities in a multitude of ways and we’ve worked very hard to make sure that each part of our company is making a positive impact. This certification validates that we’re doing just that, and in a manner that’s best for the world. We’re incredibly honored to be a Certified B Corporation, and inspired to keep growing our impact.

5. You have a bunch of different causes that you donate to ON TOP of being environmentally conscience. Can you tell us a bit about each of those causes, and why you chose to donate to them?
Jelt is dedicated to making a difference by enhancing lives with responsible and sustainable fashion. Our company acts as a social enterprise meaning that the main goal of our business is to give back to causes that are important to us.
Our commitment to social responsibility starts with working with organizations that support veterans, youth and the environment. In fact, when you buy a belt, Jelt will donate to organizations supporting these causes. Here’s how we give:

1% of annual sales supports organizations supporting combat veterans.

CURRENT PARTNER: Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation, an organization dedicated to healing America’s combat veterans with the serenity of fly-fishing, in the pristine waters of Montana.

1% of annual sales supports nonprofit organizations focused on the environment.

CURRENT PARTNER: 1% for the Planet, connecting our dollars with doers to address the most pressing environmental challenges.

$1 of every Jelt Junior belt sold goes to programs helping kids succeed in school, at home and in life.

CURRENT PARTNER: THRIVE, an organization engaged in supporting parents, empowering children, strengthening families and contributing to a thriving community.

2. What is your personal favorite product & why?
It’s hard to pick a favorite, there are so many exceptional Montana products and businesses. The fun part is getting to know the people who run the businesses and getting to know the story behind their business and product. People like Wendy with Mt Brand Apparel, Alicia at Cream of the West, Shauna at Farver Farms, Rawla at Pine Mountain Candies, and Dennis at The Nutty Montanan are just few of the many awesome Montana business owners that we have had the privilege to work with.
3. What is/was your all-time favorite box?
It seems like the last box we do is always my favorite. Then that one’s done and we’re on to the next. We did have a lot of fun putting together the December/Christmas Box. It included: a Stevia Sweetened White Chocolate Mix from 5 Sparrows (Kalispell), a Custom Gift Tag set with Twine Ties from KTF Design (Butte), 7-Grain Buttermilk Flapjack Mix from Cream of The West (Harlowton), a Custom Montana Ornament from MT Brand Apparel (Stevensville), and a Rustic Candle Holder from Cow Creek Enterprises (Corvallis). Christmas is always a fun time, and all the subscribers really like this box.
4. Where do you get ideas for your boxes? What’s your inspiration?
Some of our ideas come from the time of year like spring, summer, etc, while some have been location, like the Butte Box, and others are organized around a theme, like camping, coffee, and spa. Mostly, we have a group of Montana products we want to use, and we just try to mix and match to get a good variety. We’ve made a lot of contacts with different businesses in Montana; some have contacted us and some we have contacted. The Made in Montana program and tradeshow have been invaluable resources for ideas and contacts. Also, it’s great to go to the different Farmer’s Markets around the state and search for products that you don’t see every day.
5. Tell us a little bit about your family history in Montana!
I grew up in and around Whitehall Montana. My father’s family homesteaded in the area. The first Sacry, James, came to Montana in 1877. Our family still owns the original ranch his son homesteaded near Cardwell, and a lot of my family still live in the Whitehall area. On my mother’s side, my Grandfather worked in the mines in and around Butte and Anaconda. And my great-grandmother was a Flathead Indian. So, I have some deep roots in Montana.

Live Life Clothing Co.

I first saw Live Life Clothing Co. at the 2018 Made in Montana show! What caught my attention? A Jeep of course!! We bought ourselves an “Enjoy the journey, Respect the destination” sticker and have been falling in love ever since! They have such fun clothing for the adventurer part of you!

You can find us online at Be sure to follow us on Facebook for special online deals! Or check out our awesome Instagram for new products, and adventure inspiration. P.S. We love featuring photos from customers!
2. What is your personal favorite product & why?
My favorite product is our unisex tri-blend tee’s. (Especially heather grey) I can’t even tell you how long we spent searching for different manufactures and fabric blends to bring you the PERFECT tri-blend tee. We have become known for the softest tee’s around. Since we do in-house printing my favorite design changes quite a bit. Currently, I am loving our Mini Winnie. So cute!
3. What is your favorite Montana Adventure?
Though I have so many favorite Montana adventures, I would have to say hiking, or four wheeling to high mountain lakes to do a bit of fishing! Or panning for Montana Sapphires.
4. Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration by traveling from my favorite Montana ski towns, to exploring Europe and everywhere in between.
5. Where is one place in the world you have never been but would like to go?
Banff, Alberta!

Badass Babe

I LOVE this chick! She is hilarious, and her Instagram is awesome! Plus she makes some completely bada** jewelry, hence the name! We were fortunate to get in touch with her via email, and get a behind the scenes chat with her!

1. Badass Babe Shop Basics
  • My actual shop is on our property – my husband built it for me and my friends and I have (mostly) finished it out on the inside. (Pics top right & bottom left)
  • I am in about 75 stores nationwide (most in MT) and in a couple of online shops as well as my own website.  There’s a page on the website that tells you where to find me locally (Find that right HERE, I bet she is in a town near you!)
  • IG – @badassbabeusa, Facebook – Badass Babe @badassbabeusa
2. What is your personal favorite product from anywhere?
  • All-time personal favorite?  Quite possibly Jalapeno Cheetos.  They’re like orange crack.
  • My favorite BadassBabe?  The Chunker Sterling Silver Ring

3. We gotta know, do you shoot all the rounds for your jewelry yourself?
  • I used to, and I used to cut them all myself too with a cut-off grinder in the garage!  Now I contract with a guy out of Idaho with ties to Snake River Shooting Products (they sell ammo, etc.) who has a machine shop and fairly unlimited access to brass.  He sends them to me all pretty and ready to go.  I am spoiled 🙂
4. Craziest thing you’ve ever made?
  • Crazy cool!  My 3 favorite custom orders were all memorials.  For one, I sandblasted initials into 223 brass cases, loaded ashes (yes, real person cremated ashes) into the empty case, drilled a bullet and “reloaded” the case.  A customer requested memorial necklaces with the ashes of an uncle that had served in Vietnam.  It was a heavy project and I was honored to do it.  (Picture middle right)
5. Favorite gun and gun accessory?
  • Favorite gun to look at – my custom Glock42 380 cerakoted by Stealth Hydrographics
  • Favorite gun to shoot – CZ Scorpion 9mm carbine
  • Favorite gun accessory – the HABU charging handle for my AR15; that thing is revolutionary

What we bought: The Mini Copper Montana Necklace with the diamond(clear) crystal, because you know our obsession with copper!! PS- Her packaging is so awesome!! Almost as excited about getting gold in the mail as I was in the necklace!

Thanks Jenn from Badass Babe!
